eCommerce Tracker: Rainmakers offer one-stop boost to SMEs in Malaysia

  Continuing Malaysia's eCommerce momentum, three local players have recently formed a new venture from Penang to support small and medium enterprises' eCommerce efforts.

In the wake of moves by multinationals such as DHL to tap into local eCommerce growth,  three local IT, web design and marketing companies - Operion eCommerce & Software, Veecotech Enterprise and OneStudio Graphics -  have joined forces  to provide a one-stop service for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which includes online business solutions and support in IT, web design and marketing.

The three companies said they have already helped two business clients enhance their IT and online marketing operations prior to signing of the agreement to form a joint venture called Rainmakers (25 June 2017). Eight more companies will be helped in Penang shortly.
 Maintaining momentum
Lukas Tan, the owner of Operion eCommerce & Software, said:  "Online business is not confined to IT, computer, Internet communication, online advertising and sales to merely support existing business but they are ultimately an integral part of almost every successful business globally"

He said the leaders behind the three companies bring 22 years of combined experience in IT, design and web marketing coupled with an understanding of the challenges in capacity, scalability and legacy issues.

While Veecotech's managing director Alain Lye works with a team of dedicated IT engineers providing web design and ecommerce website development services already more than six years.  Li Shin specialises in digital branding and video animations in OneStudio Graphics over the last four years.

Rainmaker's announcement comes during a year in which national ICT agency Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has spearheaded many of the initiatives to grow eCommerce. eCommerce has been identified as one of the key ICT economic drivers in the push towards Digital Malaysia. SMEs have been urged to speed up the adoption of internet business processes, especially in view of the burgeoning Asean Economic Community pie (See - Why Malaysian companies must expand into ASEAN's US$48 billion pie: MDEC exclusive.)

Among recent major moves is the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ), launched with Alibaba's chairman Jack Ma earlier this year, which aims to simplify trade across borders.
